Rumour Mill: Everton Fighting Spurs For Silva?

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Everton have entered the race to sign Sporting Lisbon captain Adrien Silva.

As reported by the Portuguese newspaper, the Merseysiders have already launched their opening bid, an up-front payment of £22.1 million, which is just £4.4 million short of Sporting’s asking price.

This offer rivals Tottenham’s previous bid of £21 million with additional bonuses of £4 million, but apparently has been rejected by Sporting, who want the full £26.5 million for Silva’s services.

Record also claims that Sporting are fully aware of the imminent transfer of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United and feel as though they can push Everton into spending more of the reported £90 million fee they’ll receive for the Belgian forward.

However SportWitness, who broke this news, are very sceptical of Record’s journalism here, claiming that similar outlets have released many of the same headlines about Everton recently, given the Lukaku news.

However, Everton may yet influence Tottenham’s transfer dealings yet, as it is reported by The Daily Mail that Everton may be close to agreeing a £32 million fee for Swansea City play-maker Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Although the jury is out on whether or not Spurs had any interest in re-signing the Icelandic international, it is understood that Tottenham’s interest in Everton’s Ross Barkley has a solid foundation to it.

Should Gylfi Sigurdsson sign for Everton, the likelihood of Ross Barkley leaving the club would dramatically increase, opening the door for Spurs.

Who would you rather Spurs sign? The experienced Sporting captain Adrien Silva, or the young English play-maker Ross Barkley?
