Tottenham Hotspur have opened communication with Celta Vigo over the potential signing of 20 year old midfielder Pape Cheikh Diop, according to SkySources.
The Spain Under 19s star has reportedly been scouted by Tottenham for a great deal of time and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is apparently a big fan of the Senegal born midfielder.
According to The Sun, the Argentine admires the youngster’s play-style, which is rumoured to be very similar to that of breakthrough Tottenham star Dele Alli, who scored 22 goals in all competitions last season.
Diop is considered to be one of Spain’s most promising prospects and the midfielder made 19 appearances for Celta Vigo last season, although just 5 of those were starts in La Liga.
It has been suggested by popular outlets such as ESPN and The Daily Mail that Diop has a release clause of £25 million and that, unfortunately for Spurs, Lyon are also very interested in snapping up the youngster.
Though Spurs have been heavily linked with English midfielder Ross Barkley all Summer, it now seems as though Tottenham have turned their attention to Diop instead.
Only recent did Everton Ronald Koeman reveal that Barkley may very well end up remaining in Merseyside this season, weeks after reports were suggesting Spurs could quickly tie up the deal.
SkySources have also indicated that Tottenham are in the market for a young goalkeeper and a striker, if Diop and Sanchez are successful signings.
How high do you rate Diop? Or is £25 million better spent elsewhere?
