A look ahead to Spurs vs Arsenal

William Gallas - Tottenham news

It’s the Gooners on Wednesday night and another chance to watch their manager inch ever closer to a nervous breakdown. Ill fortune, dodgy refereeing and faulty timepieces have apparently dogged Wenger once more this season prompting repeated Basil Fawltyish outbursts. No water bottle or rosy-cheeked mumbling Scot is safe. The fact that the outcome to this campaign looks likely to be the same as the last one and the one before that and the one before that etc passes him by as he uses his seemingly impregnable position at the Haemorrhoids to watch Lady Luck cause the annual implosion of his master plan.

No matter what point it’s at in the season this is a fixture where a player can make a name for themselves and write a little piece of history. The timing of this game though is key as a defeat for either side would pretty much be the cue for the fat lady to stretch her tonsils and serenade the end of their remaining ambitions for the season.

The likelihood of success in our chase for fourth depends on us following our worst run of results of with probably our best. One win in eight games is no way to enter the final straight when the remaining hurdles include games against four of the top six. Our persistent injury crisis has started to abate which is one good thing, unfortunately none of those newly available are Jimmy Greaves or Clive Allen because it’s goals we desperately need and goals we also desperately lack. Harry will think long and hard before deciding what combo to play up front with Crouch and VdV probably favourites. The midfield will be probably be Bale, Lennon, Modders and Huddlestone with Benny, Gallas & Dawson filling three of the back four spots. Kaboul might get a run out at right back instead of Charlie as his power definitely makes a difference and the Arsenal defence will be wary of him given his late winner in November.

Our visitors arrive with a recent dodgy record having drawn four of their last five league games. Slightly remarkably though they are unbeaten in the league since mid December so are still tough to turn over despite the air of fragility exposed in the cups by Ipswich, Birmingham, Man United and Barcelona.

Martin Atkinson is the ref and with the likes of Wilshere, Koscielny and Sagna around will need to be alert. Van der Vaart and Bale do themselves few favours chucking themselves to the floor as readily as they do but if things get heated they may find the ground rushing up to meet them more often than they planned.

We can barely afford a slip up with Man City’s confidence being given a boost by the weekend’s result and Liverpool hot on our heels. With two wins in a row we know we have the weapons to come out on top. Who will be this season’s Danny Rose? COYS.
