Spurs to renew Portuguese international interest

Spurs could be set to renew their interest in Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes in January, according to reports.

He was linked with a summer loan move to Hotspur Way but a deal failed to materialise as Barca would not let him leave without a replacement.

The Portuguese has had a miserable start to life at Barca failing to nail down a regular spot in manager Ernesto Valverde’s first-team, and could be available in a cut-price move away from the Nou Camp.

He cost Barcelona a whopping  £45m from Valencia in the summer of 2016, but they could well be ready to cut short his stay at the Nou Camp and the article says he could well head to Tottenham in January.

Spurs have allegedly been tipped off Gomes will available again in the next window, and are already preparing their moves, according to The Sun.

Spurs’ interest in the Portuguese perhaps puts doubts against a January move for Ross Barkley.

The Everton midfielder would command a substantial fee even in January, whereas Gomes may well be available on loan or for less than half of what he cost Barcelona.

Do you think Gomes would be a good signing or should we go all out to snare Barkley. And would either man be happy to have to battle for a starting berth?
