‘Strong man’ Levy rules out striker purchase

Standard Liege owner Roland Duchatelet has claimed to have spoken to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to confirm we are not interested in signing Michy Batshuayi.

The striker has scored 19 goals in 34 games this season to help his side to the top of the Belgian Pro League.  Reports did emerge claiming that Tottenham were prepared to offer £10m to lure the forward to the Lane, but this appears to be wide of the mark.

There’s no doubt we need to bring in a prolific forward during the summer, but the striker hunt will continue with Batshuayi tipped to join the team who knocked us out of the Europa League, Benfica.

“There’s another European giant interested in Batshuayi”, Duchatelet told La Derniere Heure. “There’s no interest from Tottenham as far as I know.

“I’ve talked to the strong man of Spurs (chairman Daniel Levy) on Thursday and he has confirmed to me that they don’t want to sign Batshuayi.

“Benfica, though, have contacted us. They have confirmed they want to sign Batshuayi.”
