Chelsea plan audacious Pochettino swoop

Chelsea are considering moving for Mauricio Pochettino if Antonio Conte leaves the club this summer, according to Sky Sports.

The former Juventus coach is expected to depart Stamford Bridge after Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester United even if they are successful.

The blues have failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League, for the second time in three seasons, and the Italian looks set to leave just 12 months after winning the Premier League title in his first season in English football.

They have been linked with several high-profile replacements such as Luis Enrique and Maurizio Sarri, and the article says Pochettino is another leading candidate if Conte left.

During Pochettino’s tenure Spurs have qualified for the Champions League for three seasons in a row while operating on a significantly smaller budget than rivals such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Argentine tactician has three years remaining on his Spurs contract however following the final game of the season he said he is planning on having talks with club chairman Daniel Levy about increasing his transfer budget this summer.

Can you see Pochettino swap north London for West London. It seems unlikely he would give up Champions League football for Europa League football. However he would have a significantly bigger budget. All just rumour for now but it remains a pivotal week in the Argentine’s future at Spurs.
