Fixture Clash At Wembley

Tottenham may be forced to play 3 of their opening 4 games of the 2017-18 season away from home, due to a fixture clash at Wembley.

The game between Tottenham and Burnley scheduled for August the 26th is already in doubt, considering the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final is also to be held at Wembley on that date.

It seems likely that Spurs and Burnley will be seek to rearrange the match either by scheduling it for another day, or by reversing the fixture so that Burnley host the game instead.

Tottenham announced on the club’s official Twitter page:

“Burnley (H) Aug 26 is the same day as the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final and will need to be rescheduled. We are currently in discussions with Burnley on this matter.”

Local rivals West Ham United are also facing a similar situation, with their home tie against Southampton taking place on the day the London stadium is due to host the World Athletics Championships.

Should West Ham play the match away from home instead, Spurs will likely end up doing the same. West Ham already took to social media to announce:

“Our opening fixtures in August will be played away from home as London Stadium welcomes the 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championships for a once-in-a-generation occasion.”

This would mean Spurs face a daunting start to the season, playing away to Newcastle, Chelsea at Wembley, away to Burnley and then away to Everton.
