Hull close to Mason deal

Hull City are said to be in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the signing of midfielder Ryan Mason.

The 25-year-old came through the ranks at White Hart Lane but has found himself down in the pecking order in the heart of the Spurs midfield, finding himself behind the likes of Dele Alli, Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier and recent signing Victor Wanyama.

If Mason were to make the move to Hull, he would join Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore as former Spurs players who have made the switch to the Tigers.

Bournemouth are also said to be keen on the player who has yet to make an appearance for Spurs this season.

Mason seems to divide opinion among Spurs fans on whether he’s actually good enough to cut it at the level expected of him.  Personally I feel he’s too lightweight, takes the easy sideways pass opinion and seems obsessed in trying to put in a heavy challenge which always leads to a booking.

Do you think Mason should stay at Spurs?  Have your say below

  1. Would be sad to see Mason go. He has always given his best for Spurs, but simply not good enough unfortunately. Possibly never really been played much in his best position as one of the 3 AMs and he is a bit too lightweight to be a DM. Hull would be a good place to go, several exSpurs already there, and all have done well since their moves.

  2. I think this is a great move for Mason. He'll get loads of minutes on the pitch and he'll be one of the best players at Hull. Could even propel him back into the England squad.
The way we are going, it would be best for him to leave, as we have stepped up a notch and he would not get in above our other midfielders. It also gives the likes of Winks, Onomah and Edwards the chance to step up.
    Good move for everyone involved.

  3. We're gonna be playing a lot off games this season hopefully so I think we're gonna need big squad although I agree mason isn't good enough too be a regular first teamer

  4. He always tried his best but defo not good enough every time he played we looked weak just hope we sign another cm and couple of attacking players now tho without levy trying to Nick 50p off every deal

  5. Mason is not ‘lightweight’,. This is football not wrestling and its as non physical as its ever been. He certainly doesn’t take the sideways option atall, he loves to play forward and make 3rd man runs, thats his very game!!.. His actual faults lie in defensive positioning, leading to holes in shape or bad tackles and just a lack ability on the ball compared to the level we need. Great lad and i wish he could make it with us but if he doesn’t stay (hopefully as 5th choice) then all the best to him COYS
