Rumour Mill: New Centre-Back on Spurs’ Radar?

As reported by the Independent, Spurs will challenge German outfit Hoffenheim for the signing of 23 year old Borussia Dortmund defender, Matthias Ginter.

Ginter made 42 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund last season and was a member of Germany’s world cup winning squad in 2014. At just 23 years of age and reportedly available to buy at a price as cheap as £13 million, according to HITC Sport, Ginter could hypothetically be an attractive transfer target for the Tottenham hierarchy. We all know how much Levy likes a relative bargain.

With speculation swarming around the futures of key Spurs players such as Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Kyle Walker, Ginter’s versatility could prove very useful to Pochettino, as the young defender is able to play in the centre of defence, the right-back position and in defensive midfield.

However, according to FootballFanCast.com, most Spurs fans reacted negatively to this news, taking to social media to plead with the club not to pursue a move for the centre-back. One fan even labeled Ginter as ‘The German Wimmer’, who, despite impressing in his first season with the club, has failed to earn a place on the first team even when other defenders have been injured.

Is this true? What do you think, is this really a bad move?
