Sherwood defends Alli form

Tim Sherwood has said that Chelsea would get rid of Dele Alli if he suffered the barren run he’s on at the moment according to The Express.

Our former player and manager also believes the same would happen at Manchester City if the 21 year old was struggling.

The article describes how Alli has forged a reputation as one of the England’s brightest young prospects over the past couple of years and is almost a certainty for Gareth Southgate’s squad to go to next summer’s World Cup, however he’s struggled to replicate his best form in the Premier League this season, despite this Mauricio Pochettino has kept faith with the former MK Dons youngster.

However the article says Sherwood has now defended Alli during a discussion with Chris Sutton and suggested he’s lucky to be at Tottenham, with Chelsea and City less forgiving of their youngsters.

Sutton told BT Sport Score: “There’s more pressure on Harry Kane now because Dele Alli was stepping up last season and simply, in the league this season, he’s not.
“He’s not doing what he did last season.”

However Sherwood responded: “But he’s young, he’s developing.Like all of them we expect so much of them [young players] and that’s only credit to him that we expect him to do it week-in, week-out.But we’ve all been young once and I saw you [Sutton] when you were 21 years of age and he [Sutton] had spells where he was scoring every week.
“But then you’re gonna have a dry spell and you’re gonna have to get through it.

Sherwood continued: “Fortunately, for this kid, he’s gonna have an opportunity to get through it because he’s got a manager [Mauricio Pochettino] who backs him.if he was at Chelsea now, or at Man City, and he had a barren spell, you’d never see him again.”
