Spurs 0 Chelsea 2 – Match report

Proof, if proof were still needed after Old Trafford and Molineux, that the transformation we’ve been hoping for/expecting under Mourinho, the one that will take us from being underperforming, slow, dull and error prone to tactically aware, intuitive, speedy and clinical, will probably not happen with these players.

It hard to know where to start. The team selection? The tactics? Our negative & direct approach? The abysmal defending for both goals? Son (again) kicking out after he’s been heavily felled? Eriksen’s dreadful attempts to put the ball in to dangerous areas from free-kicks late on? More and more players being played out of position (Vertonghen, Lucas, Dele, Sissoko)? The realisation that Alderweireld is our chief playmaker until further notice?

We were second best for virtually all the game.

As well as having to put up with all of the above we had the incompetence of Anthony Taylor who got the penalty decision wrong and then wouldn’t make a judgement on Son despite it being bang in front of him. On both occasions we had to put up with yet more VAR delay.

And then Azpilicueta complained quite rightly (if true) to the referee about some ignorant and shameful abuse of Rudiger. Taylor took ages to communicate what he needed to communicate to the fourth official and managers. No-one goes to football for this.

A waste of everyone’s time and money.

The cracks are being papered over. Brighton will fancy their chances on Thursday.

Happy Christmas.
