Tottenham v West Ham – Match preview

There’s been much comment regarding the depth of our squad during the last seven days, the selection and performances of Winks and Llorente in particular have led to a queue of people pointing out that two stand out results were achieved minus a raft of senior players.

It’s one thing having a deep squad, it’s another thing having them all fit. When selecting the team for tonight’s game against West Ham in the League Cup Pochettino will have a lot to ponder as he tries to balance resting his players ahead of games against Manchester United and Real Madrid, and making progress in a competition that is comparatively winnable.

It’s all guesswork but I’d say our guaranteed starters are Vorm, Rose, Foyth, Llorente, N’Koudou, Sissoko & Walker-Peters. Tashan Oakley-Boothe may well have been in that list if he wasn’t in India with the England U17 team.

Maybes: Aurier, Davies, Dier, Alli, Alderweireld, Dembélé

Possibles: Georgiou, Edwards, Sterling, Harrison

So it’s anyone’s guess basically.

West Ham will also make changes from the team that lost to Brighton on Sunday; they have Crystal Palace at the weekend. Oooh, big game.

Noble, Carroll and Arnautovic are amongst the flying elbow we’re likely to face with the like of Masuaku, Rice, Adrian, Fernandes and Byram joining in.

With two such changed line-ups, it’s hard to predict the outcome but I’m imagining a narrow win for one side or the other, very possibly the away team given our weakened eleven and the lift that Wembley brings to those not used to it. Please, no extra time.

I would tell you who the referee is but I’ve been unable to find out.
