Trippier injury concern for Spurs

Kieran Trippier has had an outstanding World Cup, terrific pretty much from start to finish, culminating in scoring his first ever England goal in the semi-final with Croatia on Wednesday night.

However it was not to be for the Three Lions as goals from Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic sent England crashing out of the tournament at the semi-final stage.

In reality Trippier’s tournament was probably over before the final whistle anyway. He hobbled off with a groin injury in the second period of extra-time at the Luzhniki Stadium and Spurs will be concerned with the new season just around the corner.

The 27-year-old cut a disconsolate figure on the bench with an ice pack on his leg as he watched helplessly as England did not have an answer to what would be Croatia’s winner.

Trippier earned praise from England fans everywhere following his opening goal in the semi-final clash, being likened by fans to David Beckham for his set-piece delivery.

Ultimately it wasn’t to be and the injury has left some Spurs fans worried as will attention immediately turn to the new Premier League campaign. We just hope his injury isn’t as serious as it looked
