Vincent Janssen – Penalty king!

But that’s not enough unfortunately.

Once again the better team (us!) fails to leave with all the points. A statement that could apply to any of our last three league games and our recent matches with Leicester.

Victor Wanyama’s appalling header that gave Vardy and Musa the  chance to combine and equalise shortly after half time was an absolute kick in the guts given how difficult it is for us to score goals currently and how hard the players worked to take the lead just before the interval. The frustration was almost palpable as was the feeling that yet again a team whose object is to smother, foul and hoof and chase have gone away with a reward.

Still, not as bad as last year even though Leicester had only on one shot on target this time around.

We hit the bar twice, forced Schmeichel into several smart saves, went close with efforts from Vincent and Vertonghen but we could not find a Vinner. That makes it sound like we could’ve scored at any time when in truth it was more akin to watching a child try to bang in a six inch nail with a foam hammer. We needed a soft looking penalty to breach their backline.

Pochettino reverted to 4-2-3-1, last year’s formation of choice, with Dembélé and Wanyama being the two and Eriksen and Son playing either side of Alli. Whether this was due to a lack of faith in his new 4-1-4-1 or a decision that this was the best way to stop Mahrez I don’t know but we were on top from the off to the point that when we scored it felt like we could’ve followed the route already taken by Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea this season and given the Foxes a good chasing…but no, instead we allowed our opponents their only shot on target during the 90 minutes and that was the end of the scoring.

Harry will be back soon and the pressure on him to solve all our attacking issues instantly will be huge and unfair. Poor bloke.

A big November awaits, three derbies starting with a trip to the South London Wanderers next Sunday. Gird your loins and buckle up, it’ll be a rough ride.
