Winks criticises Arsenal defence

Harry Winks has offered a brutal assessment of Arsenal in their defeat at Newcastle on Sunday, saying Arsene Wenger’s defence was “all over the place”.

Defensive duo Shkodran Mustafi and Nacho Monreal made crucial errors as the Gunners threw away a 14th minute lead. It was their fifth league defeat in as many away league games in 2018. The worst across all four divisions.

Newcastle drew level when Ayoze Perez scored the opener and another poor error allowed Matt Ritchie strike the winner.

Winks offered a simple explanation for the Gunners’ defeat. He said: “The defence was all over the place from Arsenal,” the Spurs youngster said. “It’s happened quite a few times this season. When they switch it on they’re a very good side and you’ve got to respect them in that sense. But teams are playing against Arsenal knowing that they can get a good result.

He added: “Newcastle were positive, on the front foot and got their win.”

Winks was appearing on beIN Sports having travelled to Qatar for specialist treatment on an ankle injury that has limited him to just three appearances for Tottenham in 2018.
