Report: Antonio Conte interested in Manchester City England international

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte is interested in Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, according to The Telegraph.

The report claims that the Italian could sit up and take notice if the former Liverpool player decides that he wants to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, however, it is questionable whether Tottenham would be financially prepared to pay meet City’s valuation and also afford his wages.

Sterling is out of contract at the Premier League champions next summer and is said to currently earn £300,000-a-week (Daily Mail).

The England international is expected to make a decision over his future late next month while on holiday after City agreed to give him time to think ahead of holding discussions once he reports back for pre-season.

If Sterling decides that he wants to leave, it could see City looking to offload him this summer or risk losing him for free at the end of the next campaign.

Yesterday, Spurs were linked with a move for Sterling’s team-mate Gabriel Jesus, who is also said to be on the radar of north London rivals Arsenal (Telegraph).

If Sterling is to leave City, he is likely to have clubs both in England and on the continent interested in his services, among those who will certainly be willing to pay higher wages than what Spurs can offer.

The arrival of Erling Haaland could further impact Sterling’s chances of regular first-team football ahead of the World Cup this winter.
