Report: Player in talks with Tottenham to be released from his contract

Serge Aurier is in discussions with Tottenham Hotspur to reach an agreement to be released from his contract, according to RMC Sport journalist Loic Tanzi.

The Ivory Coast international has left than a year left to run on his current contract in North London and revealed his intention back in May not to sign a new deal at the club (L’Equipe).

Aurier was linked early this morning with a move to Real Betis (AS) while fellow La Liga side Barcelona rejected the opportunity to take him to the Nou Camp in a straight swap arrangement for Emerson Royal, instead preferring a straight cash deal (Daily Mail).

The arrival of Emerson has meant that Spurs have ample cover at right-back with Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty also vying for the position.

Coming to an agreement with Aurier will not only hopefully save finances, but will also free up a non-homegrown position, especially for the Europa Conference League squad.

Aurier, will surely not want to spend the next six months at least not being involved on a Saturday and leaving as a free agent will allow him to select his next club, on his own terms.
