Defender claims he snubbed Tottenham move

Catania defender Nicolas Spolli has claimed that he rejected a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the 30-year-old, Tottenham made an approach for the Argentine just before the transfer window closed earlier this month but made his intentions clear of staying with the Serie A outfit.

AVB has bolstered his defence instead with the signing of Vlad Chiricheș from Steaua Bucharest of whom big things are expected and adds some much needed central defensive cover to the likes of Michael Dawson, Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen.

“I had told the president that I wanted to remain in Catania as soon as last season came to a close, before there was any talk of transfers,” Spolli is quoted by La Sicilia.

“When the interest from Tottenham came in, the club didn’t even need to ask me, because they knew what my intentions were.

“I am happy in Catania, it’s a wonderful city and when I have the time it’s incredible to enjoy both the sea and Etna.”
