Defoe: I’m fit and ready to go

Jermain Defoe has revealed that he has been working hard on his fitness over the course of the summer.

The Spurs striker will be looking to prove he still has an important part to play in Andre Villas-Boas’ plans for the upcoming season and is already looking forward to taking on Swindon Town in our first pre-season friendly next Tuesday.

Defoe has been linked with a move away from the Lane during the summer, especially with many expecting Baldini and AVB to bolster our attacking options after a lacklustre effort in front of goal last year ultimately cost us Champions League football.

There’s no doubt on his day Defoe is a fantastic striker. But do you think he is a 20-goal a season striker? If we’re to finally get back into the Champions League we cannot rely on one player to score goals.

“I love my football and always look forward to pre-season,” Defoe told the official Spurs site.

“I’ve worked hard over the summer. I’ve had a good rest as well, that’s important, but I feel really fit.

“I can’t wait for the first pre-season to come around and if I manage to score a few goals I can take that confidence into the new season.

“It’s great to be out there training again, seeing the lads and just having that challenge again of trying to achieve something.”
