Journalist claims Sporting have made key demand to Spurs ahead of Pedro Porro move

Portuguese journalist Bruno Andrade has claimed that one of the conditions included in the proposed deal bringing Pedro Porro to Tottenham Hotspur is that the player is allowed to play in Sporting Lisbon’s upcoming cup final against FC Porto.

Tottenham have been tracking Porro as one of the main transfer targets throughout the January window but it finally appears the saga may be set to come to a positive conclusion.

While there have been obstacles along the way, reports from Portugal suggest all remains is to ‘discuss payment methods, commissions and third-party shares relating to solidarity mechanism payments.’

According to O Jogo, Spurs will pay the full €45 million (£39.6 million) zSporting wanted for Porro, but it is thought they will not technically trigger the release clause meaning payments can be made in installments rather than upfront.

Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter yesterday to say he expects the deal to be finalised within 24-48 hours. However, there appears to be one final hurdle to get over before the move can be completed according to Andrade.

He said: “One of Sporting’s requirements, in addition to the €45 million, is the full-back’s presence in the League Cup final (against FC Porto). Tottenham accepted the condition. Negotiations are well underway between the two clubs. Player already gave the yes to Spurs.”

It’s no surprise Sporting want Porro to stick around for one last game. The 23-year-old has been in fine form this season, contributing three goals and 11 assists in 25 games across all competitions this term (Transfermarkt).

I totally understand why Sporting would want Porro for their cup final, and as long as it gets the deal done, it’s a small price to pay. Now, we just hope he doesn’t pick up any injuries in the game and gets himself to North London as soon as possible after the game.
