VIDEO: Ancelotti coy on Bale transfer

Carlo Ancelotti refused to elaborate on Real Madrid’s ongoing attempts to sign Gareth Bale earlier today, but said Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino “doesn’t understand how European football works”, after the Barcelona manager criticised the Castillan club’s attempts to sign the Welsh winger.

The Tottenham player is already said to be in Spain as he awaits the deal to be signed and announced.

Ancelotti told a press conference, when asked if Madrid have signed Bale: “I said, every time I get this question, that I don’t like to speak about it for two reasons. First of all because Gareth Bale is not a player of Real Madrid in this moment and, second, because I need to have respect for my players that are here, and we are focused on our game tomorrow. I know that, in this moment, the (transfer) market, the words about the market, it’s very busy because it’s close to the end – and I hope the end of the market will arrive very soon.”

He added: “I did not understand those words. I think Tata Martino has not been here for long and he still doesn’t understand how European football works because this is the way it works. And he doesn’t understand how his own club works either because Barcelona has brought very important players paying money, I don’t know how much.”
