Tottenham defender Adam Smith has explained his reasons to see out the rest of the season on loan at Millwall despite reported interest from other Premier League clubs.
The 21-year-old has impressed at right-back during his spell with the Championship side and preferred to experience regular first-team football with Millwall than sit on a bench in the top flight. Roberto Martinez’s Wigan were said to be very keen on Smith.
“I wanted to stay here because I am playing every week,” Smith told the press.
“I am still young and want to keep on improving, and I can only do that by playing.
“We talked about a move to a Premier League club but I wasn’t guaranteed to play and I don’t want to go anywhere just to sit on the bench.”
