Agent reveals he contacted Spurs over left winger

The agent of Genk winger Leandro Trossard has revealed that he contacted Tottenham Hotspur to see if they were interested in signing the player.

The left-sided player has scored an impressive 15 goals in 18 appearances for the Belgian side this season.

His agent, Josy Comhair has apparently contacted both Tottenham and north London rivals Arsenal regarding a potential move for the player.

Whilst Tottenham refused to confirm whether the 23-year-old is being monitored by the club, Arsenal did acknowledge that they have been watching Trossard and is one who they consider as a possible signing in the future.

Trossard, who is a Belgian Under-21 international is under contract at Genk until 2021, but Comhair admits he could depart if a bid was received.

Tottenham under Pochettino have a policy on not discussing potential transfer targets but has previously stated his desire to strengthen his squad.

After they came became the first Premier League side not to make a signing since the inception of the transfer window, Pochettino will be looking to add to his squad but January can always be a difficult window.

Comhair told The Sun on Trossard’s future: “I sought contact with Arsenal and Tottenham officials.

“Nobody at Tottenham was willing to confirm that Trossard is an option for them – but at Arsenal they were.

“They told me that Leandro has a very interesting profile for them, and said that they had been following his progress since August.

“They also said he had made the right choice to remain at Genk this season, and added that they are keeping a close eye on him.

“You can never say he won’t leave Genk in January, if a huge offer comes in that suits all parties – but that is not the plan.

“But I can say for sure that Leandro will leave the Belgian league in six months’ time.

“He’ll then be 24, and it will be time for him to make the step up. If Genk win the league title his value will be even higher.

“He wants to leave them on a high. He feels he can win a trophy with them this season.”
