Ajax’s de Ligt sends warning to Spurs ahead of crucial Champions League tie

Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt has warned Tottenham Hotspur that his side have increased motivation to beat then on Wednesday night.

The Amsterdam outfit lifted the Dutch Cup yesterday afternoon following a comfortable 4-0 demolition of Willem II.

While Ajax’s opposition may only be worthy of eighth position in the Eredivisie table, Spurs will still certainly sit up and take notice of the result.

de Ligt played the full 90 minutes of the win, which sees his side still on course for the treble. Ajax hold a one goal advantage over from the Champions League semi-final first leg and Erik ten Hag’s side lead the Dutch Eredivisie on goal difference from PSV Eindhoven with two games left as they look to complete a clean sweep of trophies.

The defender who is regarded as one of European football’s brightest prospects is now hungry for more glory.

Tottenham will be boosted by the return of Heung-min Son when both sides meet at the Johan Cruyff Arena having missed the first leg due to suspension.

de Ligt told Fox Sports: “We won the first possible trophy.

“This win will give us even more motivation for the game vs Tottenham.”
