AVB speaks on Spurs injuries

Tottenham duo Michael Dawson and Aaron Lennon have both withdrawn from the England squad.

Dawson had to be replaced at half-time during the 1-0 defeat at home to Fulham after tweaking his hamstring and has been replaced in the national squad by Manchester City’s Joleon Lescott.

Lennon’s respective hamstring and groin injuries meant that he did not even make it into the squad for the Fulham match. He natural width on the right flank was noticeably missed.

“Lennon won’t be able to make it,” Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas told the press.

“He has been struggling a lot with injuries. We risked him the other day against Inter Milan and he is on the brink of rupturing his muscle so we have decided to take him out of this game. He has groin and hamstring (injuries).

“Michael felt his (hamstring) muscle going in the first half.

“If we had brought him on in the second half we would be risking him a major injury.”
