“Average player, overrated to the max” – Some Spurs fans aren’t happy with defender

Tottenham Hotspur were handed a lifeline from the penalty spot against Crystal Palace, only for Kieran Tripper to waste the opportunity.

The Spurs right-back’s attempt from twelve yards was horrific and he missed by a considerable amount to the right of the Palace keeper.

After both Eric Dier and Lucas Moura both missed from the spot on Thursday against Chelsea, Tripper was given the responsibility and did not even make the goalkeeper work.

The decision was awarded after Juan Foyth tried to turn on the edge of the area and Patrick van Aanholt kicked the back of his leg.

Many fans have criticised the performances of Trippier since returning from the World Cup, who has been unreliable with his defending and distribution during the current campaign.

Hopefully, he will never take another penalty in a Spurs shirt after that horror show.

He is the first Spurs player to miss an FA Cup penalty since Tom Huddlestone v Bolton in 2010 – not counting shootouts.

Spurs are facing their second cup exit in four days here.
