Barcelona issue statement on rumoured Spurs target

Barcelona have issued an official statement regarding their apparent interest in PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The Catalan giants took the steps to speak publically about the situation following reports in France to deny breaching any rule regarding a move for PSG players.

Rabiot has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur over recent weeks and Mundo Deportivo claimed last week that Mauricio Pochettino’s side had even offered a lucrative package to the Frenchmen, only for him to apparently opt to join Barca instead.

Barcelona revealed in their statement that they have made contact with PSG on two separate occasions to confirm their interest in the 23-year-old, with the most recent enquiry only taking place a week ago.

Rabiot has recently fallen out of favour at PSG with sporting director Antero Henrique telling Yahoo Sport France he would not play for the French giants unless he penned a deal.

A statement on Barcelona’s official website read: “FC Barcelona wish to address stories published in France regarding the signing of players from Paris Saint Germain, and make clear that they have not breached any rule in this regard.

“The only contact made was during the month of August and one week ago. In both cases, this contact was made with PSG’s sporting management to show FC Barcelona’s interest in player Adrien Rabiot.

“FC Barcelona have always wanted to work with the utmost transparency in their dealings with PSG and with any other club.

“FC Barcelona refute the existence of any type of agreement with PSG player Adrien Rabiot.”
