Ben Davies admits one former Spurs manager was not his ‘biggest fan’

Ben Davies has admitted that among the various managers he has had at Tottenham, Nuno Espirito Santo is the one who did not fancy him much.

Davies was one of Mauricio Pochettino’s first signings as Tottenham boss and the Welshman has since played under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte and now Ange Postecoglou.

While Pochettino, Mourinho, Conte and Postecoglou have all counted on him at various times, with the defender playing a few different positions under those managers, Nuno did not fancy the Welshman, with Sergio Reguilon starting at left-back in almost every game under the Portuguese coach.

Nuno’s stay at Spurs proved to be shortlived, with the 50-year-old lasting just four months in the hot seat before making way for Conte.

Nuno Espirito Santo didn’t fancy Ben Davies

Davies admitted that the former Wolves boss did not seem to rate him but insisted that he continued to give his all in training during his time in charge.

The 30-year-old said on The Gabs and Jules show: “Nuno clearly wasn’t my biggest fan, and that’s ok, football is a game of opinions. I think I started one game, which was just before he left the club.

“I thought I was training well. I still gave my all, was professional and kept myself ready to play if called upon. Thankfully for me, on a personal level, it was only like 8 games.”

It was well-documented at the time that one of the main reasons for Nuno’s downfall at Tottenham was his inability to make the squad players feel valued, which was seemingly why he quite quickly lost the dressing room.
