Club president claims Real Madrid or Barcelona is more realistic than Spurs for key employee

Lyon club president Jean-Michel Aulas had admitted that he enviages head of recruitment Florian Maurice joining Barcelona or Real Madrid should be leave the French side.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Tottenham are keen on 46-year-old Maurice who won six caps for France during his playing career before moving upstairs at the Ligue 1 outfit.

Maurice’s future at Lyon is currently in doubt after the French side chose to bring club legend Juninho back to the Groupama Stadium as sporting director.

Jose Mourinho is likely to want to add some fresh faces to his squad during the summer transfer window after replacing Mauricio Pochettino in late November.

Maurice is said to have played a pivotal role in Lyon’s recruitment of Tanguy Ndombele from Amiens initially on loan before completing a permanent deal with the French side then selling him to Tottenham in a record fee for the North Londoners (talkSPORT).

Aulas told reporters that he believes Maurice is destined to join one of the Spanish giants in the future whilst also shooting down speculation that a switch to Rennes could be an option.

He told According to L’Equpe: “I appreciate Florian Maurice so much, and he is so part of the history of Olympique Lyonnais, that I do not even imagine that he could go to another French club. And even if I don’t imagine him leaving one day, if he has to leave one day, I imagine that he will leave for Barcelona or Real Madrid,”
