Cristian Romero explains why Postecoglou is ‘exactly the manager Spurs needed’

Cristian Romero has insisted that Ange Postecoglou is exactly the sort of manager Tottenham need to get back on track after an extremely disappointing 2022-23 season.

It seems fairly clear that the Spurs players are excited about the style of play that Postecoglou is trying to implement, with Oliver Skipp stating this week that everyone is now enjoying training and the whole squad has bought into the Australian’s methods (Football.London).

Eric Dier gave an even better endorsement of the new head coach’s principles, remarking on Tuesday that he is already sure we will see a different Tottenham side next season, adding that neutrals will also enjoy watching the Lilywhites play (Sky Sports).

Romero has now become the latest player to speak in glowing terms of the new head coach’s methods, insisting that Spurs will try to impose themselves on every opposition that they come up against.

When asked about Postecoglou, the centre-back told The Athletic: “I think he is exactly the manager that the club needed.

“The biggest changes, well I don’t think they are significant changes, but it’s a playing style that I think Tottenham always had. It’s about taking more risks, taking control of the game.

“We know that the Premier League is a very tough league but we’ll try to really impose ourselves on every game in the way we weren’t able to last season and with the new manager, right now, I see the team looking really good.”

Romero insisted that he had his teammates are looking to put last season behind them and are focused on proving their mettle during the upcoming campaign.

When asked about what transpired last season, he responded: “These things that happened are in the past. We have to use it as an example so we don’t do it again and this season we have to try to do things in the right way so we can ensure the club is as successful as possible.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite clear that Postecoglou’s messages and his methods are really resonating with the squad. However, it would likely take a few months for things to start fully clicking into gear.

The big test would come when there is a lean patch (potentially at the start of the season) as doubts might start creeping into the players’ minds.
