Damiao to Spurs bid rumours pick up speed

After weeks of relative silence in the transfer market fresh speculation has emerged over the course of today firmly linking Spurs with a bid for Internacional star striker Leandro Damiao.

Tottenham have long been associated with the Brazilian international and it was widely reported that a bid was made and rejected for the striker last summer. Internacional vice-president Luciano Davi also denied that a fresh bid had been made for their player from Spurs just yesterday, but according to various different sources on the internet that has now changed.

Football website givemefootball.com reported this morning that Internacional president Giovanni Luigi had confirmed that Spurs had made a bid for Damiao, said to be around £11million, and that they were the only club who had made an official approach. Since then, various other sources have reaffirmed Tottenham’s alleged interest, quoting other figures such as £15million but staying in tune with earlier reports that Tottenham either had made a bid or were preparing one.

This news remains speculation at this stage until an official line is released by either clubs or the player himself. The only thing that can be confirmed indefinitely is that Internacional intent to make a decision on Damiao’s future after he returns from international duty with the Brazilian Olympic squad, as stated by Davi yesterday;

“Let’s wait for his return, with the gold medal, to decide what we will do. He is an Internacional player, but we are ready for what may happen.”

  1. C’mon levy let’s have it larg this season good signing so far but lets up the anti and go large massive striker needed modric is staying unless we reive a player plus cash deal which could work out in out favour don’t let those gooners mug us off in the transfer market we play so much better lets show the world COYS

  2. If we are to get damaio ,it seems strange to me that we should wait so long before making a substantial offer,as with each goal this guys scores, his price goes up. Surely our scouts would've had enough info on this guy for the chairmen to of made a decent bid prior to him playing for Brazil at this years Olympics.

    Now, I know Levy is a master negotiator but for him to pull this deal off, post Olmpics, for anything less than £20mill+ would be nothing less than a minor miracle. Llroente has handed in a transfer request in other news and should be available for roughly the same price, considering he only has a year on his contract. Maybe he would be a better option for spurs at this moment in time as he is already a proven goalscorer in Europe.
    Another good attacking option for me is the greatly under-rated Oscar Cordoza. At 28/29 he is roughly the same age a Adebayor, has a better scoring record, is a free-kick specialist and is without a doubt is a big-time player. Over the length of any potential contract, I'm sure that he would cost a lot less than Ade too.

    However, any two from Cordoza/Llorente/Adeybayor and Damaio/ Strurridge/Rossi would represent a real coup and would ,realistically, give us a good chance of at equalling, if not bettering last years fourth place finish.

  3. Nothing will happen. We are more likely to sign a third-placed striker from the russian league for £15m who is under 25 and will never blossom, and we will end up loan him out next season and sell him for £3m the year after. Thats what we've done with the last 20 midfielders we bought the last 4-5 years.

    Its beginning to look like we're never gonna get that one good striker. And with the situation we how now, we actually are in desperate need for two strikers. STRIKERS! Not attacking midfielder, or rw/lw who can run for days and score two goals and assist two goals in 38 prem matches.

  4. Please spend the money Levi. Im sure he would be well worth the money we spend, as they would probably make back the transfer fee in jersey sales alone. If we want to be a serious contender for the league and C.L. the following year, we need that 25 goals per season striker, someone better than Ade. Modric for damiao and lloris would be a fantastic trade. and we already are set at center mid with sandro and parker.
