Damiao to Spurs bid rumours pick up speed

After weeks of relative silence in the transfer market fresh speculation has emerged over the course of today firmly linking Spurs with a bid for Internacional star striker Leandro Damiao.

Tottenham have long been associated with the Brazilian international and it was widely reported that a bid was made and rejected for the striker last summer. Internacional vice-president Luciano Davi also denied that a fresh bid had been made for their player from Spurs just yesterday, but according to various different sources on the internet that has now changed.

Football website givemefootball.com reported this morning that Internacional president Giovanni Luigi had confirmed that Spurs had made a bid for Damiao, said to be around £11million, and that they were the only club who had made an official approach. Since then, various other sources have reaffirmed Tottenham’s alleged interest, quoting other figures such as £15million but staying in tune with earlier reports that Tottenham either had made a bid or were preparing one.

This news remains speculation at this stage until an official line is released by either clubs or the player himself. The only thing that can be confirmed indefinitely is that Internacional intent to make a decision on Damiao’s future after he returns from international duty with the Brazilian Olympic squad, as stated by Davi yesterday;

“Let’s wait for his return, with the gold medal, to decide what we will do. He is an Internacional player, but we are ready for what may happen.”
