Defoe offers Gordon apology

Jermain Defoe has offered an apology to Craig Gordon for the challenge that broke his arm.

Defoe went in for a ball as Gordon dived at his feet, which resulted in the Scottish number one being sidelined until February.

Gordon has already blasted Defoe, claiming that it was an avoidable incident, but Defoe has insisted it wasn’t deliberate.

“It was a funny one, the ball got played through and I thought I could get a toe in – but there was no intention to hurt him.

“So I talked to Darren Bent, to text him and apologise and I did that. I think he’s out for a couple of months so, if he’s watching, I’m sorry. He knows that isn’t my game.”

Gordon was forced off in the incident and was disappointed after being told he was facing a lengthy lay-off.

Gordon said, “I thought at the time it was a poor challenge. After looking at it again I haven’t changed my mind.

“It’s always dangerous diving down at striker’s feet, but I feel Jermain might have done more to avoid the collision.”
