‘Does not sound good’ – Spurs player offers injury update ahead of Man Utd match

Tottenham Hotspur club captain Hugo Lloris has admitted that he does not believe his injury is looking good after he was unable to play the full match against Newcastle United this afternoon.

The French international saw himself concede five goals in the opening twenty-one minutes of the match at St James’ Park which has all but ended Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top four of the Premier League and securing a return to the Champions League.

Lloris failed to materalise for the second half and was instead replaced by Fraser Forster, who had previously performed well while the 36-year-old was sidelined with a knee issue recently.

The goalkeeper revealed after the match that he believes the injury is a muscular issue near the hip area which occurred after kicking the ball and is not optimistic over it.

Tottenham face Manchester United in north London on Thursday evening and also face a tough trip to Liverpool on Sunday.

He told Sky Sports: “My injury does not sound good, I don’t know if it’s a muscle but around the hip when I kicked. It doesn’t sound good.

“We will see tomorrow or after two days when I have a scan.”

Lloris was disappointing during his first half display and at least two of Newcastle’s goals looked as if the Frenchman should have done better.

Tottenham have known for some time that there needs to be a succession plan for passing the goalkeeping torch to a long-term replacement, however, like many other aspects, there appears to be no strategy.
