Dortmund confirm top scorer will miss match

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed that Marco Reus will miss today’s match against Hoffenheim.

The Dortmund captain picked up a thigh problem during their DFB-Pokal penalty shoot out defeat to Werder Bremen on Tuesday night and had to be replaced by Paco Alcacer at half time.

Reus has been in scintillating form this season, having scored 17 goals this season which has seen Dortmund rise to the top of the Bundesliga table, and have a seven point advantage over Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich.

The player will now be considered to be a serious doubt for Wednesday’s Champions League round of sixteen first leg against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium.

Zorc spoke at a press conference on Friday and was quoted by AOL as saying: “Marco Reus suffered a muscle injury on Tuesday and will not be able to play,” he said

.Decisions will also be made on defenders Lukasz Piszczek and Marcel Schmelzer, and English winger Jadon Sancho ahead of the match against Hoffenheim, or whether they are kept fresh for the Spurs clash.

He added: “We hope that Lukasz Piszczek will be able to train today,” Zorc said.

“Jadon Sancho and Marcel Schmelzer already trained but they’re still weakened.

“We have to wait and see if they will make the starting line-up. It’s going to be a game-day decision.”
