Fabrizio Romano has denied reports that Tottenham have launched a joint bid for James Maddison and Harvey Barnes but the journalist did confirm that the North London club are in talks with the representatives of both players.
Yesterday, we relayed a report from The Daily Mail which claimed that Spurs had submitted an offer in excess of £50m for Barnes and Maddison.
The report asserted that the bid was expected to be turned down by Leicester as it falls short of their valuation.
This was subsequently followed up by an update from The Telegraph, which suggested that Tottenham would even be willing to offer Harry Winks to the Foxes are part of their deal to sign either or both of Maddison and Barnes.
Spurs are in Barnes and Maddison agent talks
Romano has now taken to social media to pour cold water over the reports of the £50m offer for the duo, describing such claims as being ‘wide of the mark’.
However, the journalist did confirm that Spurs are working on deals to sign both Maddison and Barnes and when pressed on what he meant, he responded that the Lilywhites are in talks with the players rather than with Leicester.
Understand Tottenham have not sent any official proposal for Harvey Barnes and James Maddison — would make no sense to submit joint bid for £50m, no chance. 🚨⛔️⚪️ #THFC

Spurs Web Opinion
It sounds like Tottenham are first looking to get a green light from Maddison and Barnes before entering into negotiations with Leicester City.
That would make sense, given that both players are likely to have a whole host of suitors this summer following the Foxes’ relegation.
