Fabrizio Romano reveals Spurs-linked manager pulls out of race for Chelsea job

Julian Nagelsmann has decided to withdraw from the race to become the new Chelsea manager, Fabrizio Romano has revealed on Twitter this afternoon.

The German has been out of work since his surprise dismissal from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich after it was reported that he was saidd to have lost his job because the team has gone backwards in the league and there was not enough player development (Sky Sports).

The Telegraph revealed earlier today that Nagelsmann was considered one of the frontrunners to become Graham Potter’s successor having already held an interview for the post next week and was expected to have sat down with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy once again.

Nagelsmann’s exit could see Mauricio Pochettino move further up Chelsea’s list after the former Spurs boss impressed the Blues after a series of talks with ‘warmth growing’ towards the possibility of the Argentine becoming their next appointment.

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to have been monitoring Nagelsmann’s situation, having long admired the work of the 35-year-old, while Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is also considered to be a leading candidate (Independent).

Sky Sports reported late last month that Spurs had made contact with Nagelsmann over their head coach vacancy following the departure of Antonio Conte.
