Former PL striker can see Newcastle United star joining Spurs or Arsenal

Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin should look to leave the club, and Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur would be a good fit for him if he elects to move on. That’s according to former Tottenham striker Louis Saha, who has been speaking to GGRecon.

Saint-Maximin joined Newcastle from Nice in 2019 and has shown over the last couple of years what a talented player he can be. He has 13 goals and 19 assists in 110 appearances for the Magpies (Transfermarkt) and was considered their main man until recently.

With five goals and five assists in 35 appearances last season (Transfermarkt), Saint-Maximin was integral to lifting Newcastle from the relegation zones to mid-table safety. However, with an influx of money and new players at the club, the Frenchman has slipped off the radar a little of late.

The 25-year-old has struggled for game time this term, though, and has just one goal and three assists in 17 appearances (Transfermarkt). That is partly down to injuries, and partly down to the competition for places at the club now.

Saint-Maximin’s future at the club is far less certain now than it was a year ago, and Saha thinks the player should consider moving on.

He said: “All young players should see how quick football goes. It’s unbelievable because last season Saint-Maximin was unreal and nobody would have been thinking about the prospect of Newcastle United selling him.

“He’s been unlucky this season with injuries, but he’s a top player and he could potentially find a move to one of the ‘big six’ clubs. I could see Arsenal or Tottenham having a player of Saint-Maximin’s quality and style.”

Saint-Maximin is a great player on his day and would probably suit the Spurs system quite well. However, his injury record of late makes him a risk, and one I can’t see Tottenham willing to take.
