Is becoming more and more the classic centre forward in the Shearer mould. Bullying, bulldozing, head down, massively physical, quick feet and shots. A super header for the disallowed ‘goal’. His presence drew down the penalty. His presence of mind ensured that he scored (when his Golden Boot rival failed with his). Since he has such flair to link up play – why can’t he make contact with Son?

The game which had offered Spurs fans so worryingly little suddenly contrived to produce every kind of drama bar a victory in the final ten minutes. In the end, it was a draw which, in the our current predicament, most supporters would settle for – some sort of status quo preserved. No one would be mourning the passing of that meaningless ‘no draw’ stat. The rot, at least, was stopped.

Teams come to stifle Spurs in centre midfield and Arsenal were successful in reproducing that strategy again today. We don’t help ourselves with an overload in central defence and so we’ve not only a lack of invention but a simple lack of personnel upfield.

We started, as we do so often, conservatively, ponderously, predictably. Yes, we can pass across the back but we can’t string a sequence of passes in their half currently that are quick and progressive.

Son and Kane play like strikers unaware the other is actually playing – no partnership but two super attackers who nevertheless play too often with heads down.

Something isn’t quite right. Today, we’ll settle for a draw and on Tuesday some means of going through. Then we need to start to rediscover our enterprise, the way of playing that gets people up out of their seats.
