Heung-min Son – 9
Probably a nine for ‘that goal’ alone. He was nevertheless one of the players that marked the difference between this match and much of the season. He played with freedom and enterprise and devastating pace. He got into so many scoring positions in the first half. Granted, he squandered them but no matter, his first touch to create them was sublime and his confidence right back up there from last year.
Spurs have picked up the points this season but there have been question marks about the performances. This was a performance. Like last year at their best. Not just beating massive rivals (in both the table and the city) but beating them with so much to spare.
It seemed to be a matter, dare I say, of fitness. Kane and Son ran with freedom. Potentially stolid midfielders looked mobile – has Dier lost a stone in weight in the past month? Notoriously pedestrian starters at times, here Spurs were out of the gates with their old pressing game, starting from the front, smothering Chelsea ball players. It’s such a tough week that one fears they won’t be able to sustain it but they will be buoyed by this and they just might … they just might.
