Denied an obvious penalty, it looked like it wasn’t going to be his day. Too many off-sides and that tendency he has, when tearing at defences, not to look up or see other possibilities in his peripheral vision. Then he scores a wonderful breakaway goal and continues to bolster his player of the season credentials.

Match Summary

Points for artist impression? Perhaps not so many. Points in the Premiership Table? All three. Without Harry Kane and Dele Alli, who’d have dreamed four wins on the bounce? It’s remarkable tenacity for which the manager and his whole squad must take credit. The whole teamed worked hard for it but the world class players (in Eriksen, Lloris and Son) made the critical contributions.

In the first half, the game was remarkably open and, towards the end of the second, Spurs fell back, seemingly tired, inviting Leicester on. So, there were elements of fortune in the result, strangely since we are so used to seeing the team manage games with suffocating efficiency.

Of course, referee blame is the last resort of the terminally desperate, but in that first half especially, Michael Oliver! People talk about adding insult to injury, but swapping a penalty for a completely unjustified card has to be even worse.
