Gary Neville argues why Conte and Levy should both want to extend their partnership

Gary Neville has told Sky Sports that Antonio Conte should stay at Tottenham Hotspur, because there is no better project for the manager, and Daniel Levy cannot find a better manager for the club either.

Conte has been away from the club over the last month due to a diagnosis of Cholecystitis leading to surgery to remove his gallbladder.

The Italian was set to return to action on Sunday (Football.London) after missing the game against Wolves.

It’s been a difficult season for Conte, between disappointing results and health problems, he has also seen three friends pass away.

With his current contract set to expire in the summer, there are rumours he may leave Spurs and return to Italy permanently to be closer to his family (Off the Ball).

Several names have been touted as possible replacements for Conte if he does decide to depart, including former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino (GiveMeSport) and Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi (Football Insider).

However, Neville believes Conte and Spurs are a good fit for one another and thinks the 53-year-old should stay in his current role.

He said: “I don’t see how Daniel Levy will be able to get someone better than Conte to deliver what he wants which is Champions League football.”

“At this moment in time I don’t see where Antonio Conte can go that challenges him in the same way the Premier League does that gets him into the top four in the best league in Europe.

“I think Conte should stay and I think Levy should keep him, I think both ways that should work.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Neville is certainly right about Spurs not really having any better options than Conte.

As for the manager, he may enjoy the challenge of the Premier League but it depends how strongly he feels about being back in Italy.

It’s very hard to predict what will happen with the Conte situation, but hopefully, he sticks around.
