Graham Roberts picks his Spurs Player of the Year

Former Tottenham Hotspur skipper Graham Roberts has chosen his player of the season and it isn’t the obvious choice.

Roberts, who helped the club to win the 1984 UEFA Cup final has picked Jan Vertonghen as his standout Spurs performer of the current campaign.

Harry Kane may get all the headlines for his goalscoring heroics, but we have to agree with Robbo, Super Jan has been Mr Consistent at the heart of the Spurs defence all season.

Even with his compatriot Toby Alderweireld missing the majority of the season through injury and if you believe some, due to a contract deadlock, Vertonghen has been a rock at the back whether playing alongside Davinson Sanchez, or in a back three with Sanchez and Dier.

Here’s what Robbo had to say on Twitter.

2nd best player of the season – Harry Kane
3rd best player of the season – Heung Min Son
4th best player of the season – Christian Eriksen
