Fabrizio Romano reveals player is in Spain ready to fly to Spurs for medical

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Guglielmo Vicario will have his medical at the Hotspur Way training facility on Sunday before finalising his switch to Tottenham Hotspur.

The goalkeeping position was a crucial one for Tottenham to address this summer, with long-standing captain Hugo Lloris confirming earlier this month he is now seeking a new challenge away from the North London club.

Lloris told (Nice-Matin) at the start of the month: “We have reached an important moment, whether it be for the club or me. It’s the end of an era.

“I have a desire for something else. I will carefully study what is possible. However, I haven’t forgotten that I have a year left on my contract at Tottenham, and in football, it’s always hard to predict what will happen.”

It looks like Spurs have wasted no time in doing so, with Vicario, who has emerged as one of the best young goalkeepers in the Serie A over the last couple of years, seemingly set to take over the number one shirt from the Frenchman.

On Thursday evening, Alasdair Gold revealed on Football.London that Tottenham are confident of striking a €19m (£16.2m) agreement with Empoli for the 26-year-old over the coming days.

Romano has now taken to social media to claim that the Premier League club and the Serie A side have already signed off on the documents for the transfer.

Guglielmo Vicario to undergo Spurs medical on Sunday

He revealed that Vicario is currently in Spain and will fly from there to London on Sunday to complete his medical and sign on the dotted line.

The Italian transfer expert wrote on Twitter: “Guglielmo Vicario will undergo medical tests as Tottenham player on Sunday — he will travel to London directly from Spain where he’s right now.

“Main part of documents already signed between Spurs and Empoli.”

Tottenham fans have been burned quite a lot of times over the years and some might refuse to believe that this is a done deal until Vicario is pictured holding up a Spurs shirt.

However, all indications are that this deal has now been finalised, with the Lilyhwites seemingly ready to turn attention to the pursuit of James Maddison and a new centre-back.
