Injury expert gives insight into Hugo Lloris problem and likely return date

Injury expert Ben Dinnery has said that Hugo Lloris does not need surgery on his knee but revealed that the Tottenham captain might be out until the start of April.

The Telegraph revealed on Wednesday that tests had shown Lloris had damaged his knee ligaments in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday.

The report claimed that the goalkeeper is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks. Lloris’ wife, Marine, took to Instagram to post a picture of the goalkeeper’s knee strapped and in braces.

The injury comes at an awkward time for Tottenham, who are set to resume their Champions League campaign with a trip to AC Milan next week and are fighting to reclaim lost ground in the race for the top four spots.

Fraser Forster will have to take over the gloves in Lloris’ absence, and if Dinnery’s update is to be believed, the former Southampton man might have to fill in until the start of April.

Dinnery told GiveMeSport on the 36-year-old’s injury: “There’s no surgery required. These ligaments have a really good, strong blood supply.

“He’ll have excellent results and return to play from conservative treatment, so we’re probably looking at a fairly extensive injury which is around about that high-end grade two, keeping him out for six to eight weeks.

“I think initial fears were that his season could be over but, looking at the fixtures, in and around the beginning of April is realistic for the Frenchman.”

It can be argued that Lloris’ injury is not a particularly big blow for Spurs, given the Frenchman’s poor form this season. Forster is an able deputy and he is experienced enough not to get overawed by big occasions in the Champions League.
