‘It’s credit to everyone’ – Postecoglou reacts to breaking PL manager record

Ange Postecoglou has credited the players and everyone at Tottenham for their impressive start to the season after he broke the record for most points by any manager in their first nine Premier League matches.

Tottenham picked up their seventh win of the season in nine matches against Fulham on Monday, to go with their two draws away at Brentford and Arsenal.

That means that Postecoglou has managed to accumulate 23 points in his first nine league games in charge, beating the previous record tally of 22 held jointly by Mike Walker and Guus Hiddink at Norwich City and Chelsea respectively (ESPN).

Tottenham were overwhelming favourites heading into the clash against the Cottagers and it was the sort of banana peal game that Spurs sides of the past have slipped up on.

However, this side showed that they are made of sterner stuff, delivering a professional performance to emerge 2-0 winners.

Postecoglou passes credit to his players and staff

When asked about the new PL record that he has set after nine matches, Postecoglou told Football.London: “It’s credit to everyone. We’ve had a really encouraging start to the season for sure, both results and performance-wise we have been really consistent.

“We had to work hard tonight. I thought first half we held it really well. We had to be pretty patient in the way we looked for the openings as Fulham were well organised, particularly defensively.”

The first-half performance that we delivered yesterday was the best I have seen us play so far this season, which is evidence that the players are perhaps becoming better accustomed to the system with each game.

We did take our foot off the gas in the final 30 minutes of the game and almost allowed Fulham back into the game, which is something that Postecoglou and his coaching staff would be keen to redress going forward.
