Jan Vertonghen responds to journalists when asked if he is injured

Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 3-1 victory against Aston Villa.

One player who was spotted watching from high up in the new stadium alongside Dele Alli was Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian defender was left out of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad and was quizzed by journalists following the match about his fitness.

Pochettino instead went with two central defenders in his starting line up with Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez getting the nod.

The central defender confirmed that he is not injured which certainly has raised eyebrows as to why at the very least he was not named among the substitutes.

Vertonghen is now within the last twelve months of his contract in North London and has been a mainstay in the Spurs side over the past few years which makes his absence even more mysterious.

Dan Kilpatrick, football journalist for the Evening Standard took to Twitter to reveal what Vertonghen had to say.
