Jose Mourinho waxes lyrical about reported Spurs target

One of the latest players to be linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur is Saint-Etienne’s William Saliba (The Mirror).

While the 18-year-old central defender may be something of an unknown quantity among viewers of the Premier League, former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

His performances for the Ligue 1 side have seen him attract a number of admirers from across Europe including Tottenham’s North London rivals Arsenal who are said to have had a £27million bid rejected.

The 6ft 4 in star signed a new four-year contract extension with the French side earlier this year which puts Saint-Etienne in a strong position to name their price.

Mourinho believes that Saliba possesses all of the attributes to become a top class defender and compared him to Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma who he also signed from Saint-Etienne .

Speaking about Saliba, Mourinho told Metro: ‘I think he has everything needed to become a good player, much like Kurt Zouma, who I signed.’

Opinion

Mourinho certainly knows a good player when he sees one but whether Spurs need another central defender will surely depend on whether Toby Alderweireld is still at the club come the first day of the Premier League season.
