Journalist claims new Spurs boss will be expected to build defence around one man

Football London’s Alasdair Gold has claimed that the new Tottenham Hotspur head coach will be expected to build their new defence around Joe Rodon.

Tottenham struggled at the back last season and, although Rodon impressed when handed chances, he was used far less than Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier.

Despite being in and out of the starting XI, Rodon has gone into the European Championships seemingly full of confidence in his ability for Wales.

The 23-year-old has been at the heart of every positive Wales performance with his brave, no-nonsense defending, arguably being one of their players of the tournament so far.

Gold claimed in the article that he believes the next Spurs coach will have been watching Rodon this summer and will have seen his bright future.

The Football London journalist added that Rodon would likely be due to return to Hotspur Way a little later than some due to his involvement in Euro 2020. However, Gold also said that Rodon could return sooner to impress the new head coach.

Finally, Gold claimed that the new head coach is expected to be handed a brief to turn some of Tottenham’s youngsters into stars, with Joe Rodon highlighted.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Rodon is a star for the future. I am convinced of that after his Euro 2020 performances. Spurs need to sign a left-sided partner who will suit Rodon for next season and give them an extended run in the team together.
