The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea remain big fans of Josko Gvardiol, and the centre-back could be one to watch in the 2023 transfer market.
Earlier this summer, it was reported that Gvardiol was one of the left-sided centre-backs on Antonio Conte’s radar along with the likes of Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni (Football.London).
However, Spurs eventually snapped up Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan move from Barcelona instead, although the Frenchman is yet to start a game for the North London club.
In the final week of the transfer window, it appeared as if Chelsea might swoop for Gvardiol, with the Blues alleged to have made an of €90m (£77.3m) for the player (Fabrizio Romano).
However, Leipzig confirmed on transfer deadline day that the 20-year-old had signed a 12-month extension at the Red Bull Arena.
Romano stated on Wednesday that despite Chelsea’s offer being turned down, the Blues are expected resume talks with Leipzig for the Croat in January.
Pitt-Brooke has now hinted that Tottenham will also continue to monitor the defender and added that the youngster is “one to keep an eye on for 2023.”
Certainly one to keep an eye on for 2023. Chelsea and Tottenham obviously both big fans of his and they're not the only ones. https://t.co/9ccG8bXqHs

Spurs Web Opinion
The only way Spurs can compete for Gvardiol is if there is a potential release clause in his contract that would allow him to leave for £50m-£60m next summer.
I cannot see us being ready to pay £80m for the Croat like Chelsea seemingly are. Spurs might turn focus their efforts on snapping up Bastoni instead.
