Journalist may have given Spurs fresh hope in Pochettino pursuit

Duncan Castles has revealed on The Transfer Window Podcast that Mauricio Pochettino is still looking to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

It was reported earlier this summer that Tottenham were in talks with their former manager over a possible return to North London this year.

Pochettino was sacked from his Spurs role in 2019 but his replacement, Jose Mourinho, parted ways with the club in April 2021 and the job has remained vacant ever since.

Castles has now claimed that Tottenham and Pochettino were both open to talking about a return and it seemed as if PSG had managed to cut that off.

However, the Argentine is apparently continuing to put pressure on the French club and the Qatari owners to let him leave this summer, no matter what the future holds for Leonardo.

Castles said (Transfer Window Podcast – as quoted by The Express): “He was obviously open to talking to Tottenham, Tottenham briefed that they were open to bringing him back.

“It seemed that Paris Saint-Germain’s actions had cut that path off.

“What I’m being told is that Pochettino is continuing to put pressure on Paris Saint-Germain, to put pressure on the Qatari owners, to allow him to leave this summer, regardless of Leonardo exercising that option which has made it more expensive for him to get out.

“So there you have at least the potential that Daniel Levy can get the man back who he seems to regret having sacked.

“It would certainly, from a PR perspective, wash away a terrible few weeks for them, with failure on successive attempts to appoint a range of candidates.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Pochettino returning now would seem like a dream after the woeful manager hunt. However, I just can’t see it happening. I think that Levy will roll the dice on an attacking manager on a two-year contract then get Poch back next year or the summer after.
